There is increasing interest in developing solar sails that can be used on spacecraft. Such sails, if perfected for use, could greatly reduce the size and weight of such craft and could theoretically make it possible a trip to the nearest star in 40 ...

A solar sail is made of aluminized Mylar having an emissivity of 0.03 and reflecting 92% of the light that falls on it. Suppose a sail with area 1.28 km2 is oriented so that sunlight falls perpendicular to its surface with an intensity of 1.40 103 W...

I know its a couple of years left till its going to implode and die. But if mankind wont kill eachother we would have to escape our solarsystem and either build a colony-ship or set sail to another universe/solar-system. And since it is x billion y...

I know that the force equations for light are F = 2IA/c for total reflection and F=IA/c for total absorption. Since black absorbs light and white reflects it doesn't that mean that solar sails should be white? Clearly I am missing something here...
